Suggest solutions on stray dog menace, court tells state govt

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Tuesday directed the state authorities to consult experts and suggest suitable solutions to deal with the stray dog menace. The bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Sreenivas Rao was dealing with a batch of pleas that sought intervention of the court to find a lasting solution to the problem.When the bench resumed hearing in the case, special govt pleader Pottigari Sridhar Reddy said that they are in the process of holding deliberations with the authorities of animal welfare board to deal with the problem in a humane manner. "We are also thinking in terms of involving the community in containing the menace. We are adopting different strategies to deal with those strays that have become ferocious. Sterilisation, anti rabies vaccine etc are a few of them," he said. The bench sought to know from him whether the proposed dog shelters or rehabilitation centres were set up. The state counsel said that such a proposal was found to be not feasible. The bench then asked him whether sterilization and vaccination would make the strays any less ferocious. The state counsel informed the bench that they received some suggestions from the authorities of animal welfare board. "Talk to the experts and tell us within three weeks," the bench said.
