Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has said that 40 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy have been procured during the ongoing 2025-26 rabi season. In a statement on Monday, the govt said 8,575 procurement centres have been set up across the state for rabi crop purchases. After procuring the paddy, payments amounting to Rs 6,462 crore have been made to farmers for the grain purchased so far.
“The number of procurement centres this year is the highest among all rabi seasons. There were 6,609 centres in 2021-22, 7,037 in 2022-23, 7,178 in 2023-24, 8,378 in 2024-25, and 8,575 in 2025-26. Compared to the 2021-22 rabi season under the previous govt, procurement as of May 18 this year is significantly higher. At that time, 21.79 lakh MT were purchased, while this year, 40 lakh MT have been procured,” officials said.
So far this year, 18.24 lakh MT more paddy has been procured compared to the 2021-22 rabi season. “Purchases this year have also surpassed those made during the 2022-23 rabi season under the previous govt. By May 18 in 2022-23, 30.4 lakh MT had been purchased, whereas this year, 40 lakh MT have been procured,” it said.
