Hyderabad: With Hyderabad’s IT sector finally overtaking Bengaluru with 1.5 lakh new jobs being added in financial year 2021-22, Telangana IT & industries minister KT Rama Rao urged the state’s IT&ITeS sector to look towards tier-2 towns across the state for future growth.
During an interactive session with top honchos of Hyderabad’s IT sector, organised by Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA), KTR said the Telangana government had taken a calibrated approach by creating IT hubs in six towns.
“It’s time to start reinventing and thinking beyond Hyderabad as Covid has shown that work can get done from anywhere. It goes without saying that the quality of life is better in smaller towns and the quality of work is even better,” KTR said citing examples of some small companies doing cutting edge work in tier-2 hubs.
He said Hyderabad’s IT sector had grown from exports of 57,000 crore and employment of 3.23 lakh in 2014, when the state was created, to 1.87 lakh crore and 8.7 lakh jobs. He said the city had been playing a catch-up game with Bengaluru, and last fiscal it created 1.5 lakh IT jobs, or a third of the 4.5 lakh new jobs created in India in that period vis-a-vis the 1.46 lakh jobs created by Bengaluru.
“The number of employees, employers who are looking at city is growing. I sincerely believe that this is just the beginning,” KTR said.
