Time for IT sector to tap tier-2 hubs for growth: KTR

In Hyderabad, the IT sector finally overtook Bengaluru in terms of jobs created in the past year. Telangana's Minister of Industries, KT Rama Rao, urged the IT sector to look towards tier2 towns across the state for future growth during an interactive session with top honchos of the IT sector organized by Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA). He said that the Telangana government has taken a calibrated approach by creating IT hubs in six towns, and that "it's time to start reinventing and thinking beyond Hyderabad as Covid has shown that work can get done from anywhere it goes without saying that the quality of life is better in smaller towns and the quality of work is even better." He cited examples of some small companies doing cutting edge work in tier2 hubs, and said that Hyderabad's IT sector had grown from exports of 57,000 crore and employment of 323,000 in 2014 when the state was created to 187,000 crore and 87,000 jobs. He said that the city had been playing a catchup game with Bengaluru, and that last fiscal, it created 15,000 IT jobs or a third of the 45,000 new jobs created in India in that period.
