Urge to be sumangali spurs suicide
HYDERABAD: A devoted wife hanged herself at her home on Friday after she got to know her husband was suffering from throat cancer. She was said to have been driven by the desire to be a ''sumangali'' (a wife who dies before her husband).
P Narayanamma, 55, opted for death after P Anjaneeyulu, her spouse, was diagnosed with cancer. She had apparently picked the auspicious Shravanamasam to end her life.
Narayanamma, her husband and their younger son, P Murali Krishna, lived together.

On Friday, around 3.30 am, Murali came home from his call centre job and fell asleep.
Anjaneeyulu wasn''t at home. He had gone to a clinic for a check-up and returned around 2 pm. Murali opened the door for him and soon they began looking for Narayanamma.
But she failed to respond to their calls. Later, they saw her hanging from the ceiling fan.
