One arrested for kidnap of infant at GGH
An eight-day-old infant was kidnapped from a hospital in Guntur, India, but was traced and returned to her family within 12 hours. The mother discovered her daughter missing after waking up from a nap. The baby was found at the home of the accused kidnapper, who was arrested. In other news, an infant in Ahmedabad was mistakenly given phenyl instead of vitamin syrup at a hospital, and a medical college and hospital in Maharashtra reported 18 deaths in 24 hours.

Be ready with relief camps: Govt to 7 dists
The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has issued a flood alert for several districts in West Bengal as it released a large amount of water from dams. The state government has asked officials to be prepared and has set up camps and distributed relief materials. In another water-related dispute, the Cauvery Water Management Authority has ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu until October 15, but rejected Tamil Nadu's request for a backlog of water. The Karnataka government plans to challenge the decision.
