Govt not against any community: Manipur CM N Biren Singh

IMPHAL: In the backdrop of the ongoing ethnic strife besieging Manipur, CM N Biren Singh on Monday said the government is not against any community which has been living together with other communities in the state.

“The government has never asked any of these communities to leave the state and all communities should live together peacefully in unity like different flowers in a garden,” he said.

Biren was addressing a crowd at Haj Complex, Lilong Karampat in Thoubal district during a mass congregation.

Community outfit calls for Lalit Jha's boycott

The Maithil Samaj Uttar Pradesh (MSUP) announced their decision to boycott Lalit Jha, the alleged Parliament breach mastermind, and requested the media not to use his surname in reports. Lalit's family expressed their intention to move court while residents, neighbours, and cops in his native Bihar expressed surprise at the allegations. The MSUP held an online "emergency meeting" where Lalit was criticized for his "shameful act." The resolution for the social boycott of Lalit was passed after discussions on the impact on the Maithili fraternity. The charges against Lalit have raised suspicion towards the entire community who trace their roots to the Mithila region of Bihar.
