NEW DELHI: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, the total ridership is expected to cross one lakh on Monday, officials said."After the last train scheduled to depart at 10 PM on Monday, we expect the total ridership to surpass 1,00,000 commuters. This marks the first full day of operations following the inauguration of the corridor. This is the highest ridership recorded on the corridor to date," said an official of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is executing the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS.

Before this, the highest ridership recorded on a single day on the then operational stretch was 85,500. However, the average daily ridership is 60,000.The 82-km journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram takes about 58 minutes. Though a 55-km section covering 11 stations from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South was operational, the entire corridor, including the originating station Sarai Kale Khan and three additional stations in Uttar Pradesh — Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram — opened to the public on Sunday at 6pm.
