INDORE: People usually visit dentist when they have severe pain in teeth and gums, but if they take preventive care they can stay away from major problems, said Dr Ashok Dhobale, national secretary of Indian Dental Association (IDA).
He is in the city as the chief guest in the 35th IDA MP-state general dental conference. It is sad that only 5 per cent people undergo routine dental check-up and 90 per cent youth suffer from gum related diseases, he said.
The conference, ‘Embracing advancement making connection’, is witnessing the participation of over 1,000 delegates from various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. Addressing the delegates, Dhobale raised concern over lack of dental care in rural areas. He said over 30,000 dentists enter into the profession every year with the motto of providing their services in urban areas. “This is why rural areas lack awareness about dental care. Diseases like oral cancer can be prevented by taking preventive care,” he said.
Dr Sumit Jain, organising secretary of conference, Union Minister Uma Bharati and Mayor Malini Gaur will formally inaugurate the event on Saturday. Dr Hitesh Vajpayee emphasized on promoting dental tourism programme. He urged IDA to design a proposal for promoting dental tourism. “We have more number of dental surgeons and better resources compared to other countries. If planned well, we can work on lot of things in dental tourism,” he said.
Also present in the event were Dr Sandhya Jain, chairperson of organising committee, Dr Manish Verma, state secretary of association, Dr Deshraj Jain, patron, Dr PB Jain, Dr PB Banjari, Dr Pallav Patni, Dr Mayank Kanti Shah, Dr Prashant Mishra and Dr Rajiv Shrivastav.
