‘This is my school, don’t act smart in front of me’: Teacher suspended for reporting to duty intoxicated in Madhya Pradesh – watch
By: Litha Achari
INDORE: A female government school teacher posted in Manawar, Dhar district, was suspended on Wednesday after a video surfaced showing her arriving at school in an intoxicated state and misbehaving with staff and laborers.
The teacher, identified as Kavita Kawche, was serving at the primary school in Singhana village and was captured on camera slurring, threatening staff, and creating a scene within school premises.
According to the official suspension order issued by the Office of the Collector (Tribal Welfare), Dhar, the incident took place on June 23. Kawche allegedly arrived at school under the influence of alcohol, used offensive language, and misbehaved with laborers involved in school repair work.
The school staff, including the in-charge principal Juwan Singh Baghel and headmistress Mamta Rathore, confirmed the incident and stated that such behavior had been repeatedly observed in the past.
In the probe report submitted by Block Resource Coordinator Kishore Kumar Bageshwar, the school staff and students informed officials that such incidents had occurred in the past as well.
One video shows her saying, "This is my school. Don’t act smart in front of me," while slurring and folding her hands when confronted.
“We came to know about the matter when videos of the teacher began circulating widely on social media. Following this, officials from the Education Department, including the Block Resource Coordinator, were sent to the school for an inquiry. It was found that she was intoxicated and misbehaving with both the laborers working on school repairs and the staff,” N.S. Barkade, assistant commissioner, Tribal Welfare Department, told TOI.
“Similar incidents have occurred in the past as well, but at the time, she apologized and the matter was set aside. In this case, a departmental inquiry will be conducted to determine the further course of action against the teacher,” he added.
The suspension, enacted under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules, 1965, and Classification, Control, and Appeal Rules, 1966, cites dereliction of duty and misconduct. Her headquarters during the suspension period has been assigned to the Block Education Office in Gandhwani, and she will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per norms.
Kawche is responsible for teaching nearly 150 students from classes one to five. Repeated warnings, staff say, had failed to deter her behavior, which they claim has negatively impacted students.
