Angry over poor electricity supply, councillor creates ruckus in Kota

KOTA: Irked over problems of electricity and road lights being faced in his area, an Independent councillor from ward no. 25 of Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC), along with several others on Monday stormed into assistant engineer’s (electricity, civil) office of UIT at Ramcharan Circle under Mahaveer Nagar police station. The mob created ruckus and damaged tube lights, manhandled the employees of the contractor and fled with LED lights.

Police have booked the councillor and others for damaging government property and manhandling the employees.
The councillor from ward no. 25, Ram Dev Verma along with several others from his ward on Monday morning stormed into the AEN office and created ruckus. The mob, led by the councillor damaged the tube lights and manhandled and thrashed the employees of the UIT contractor for electricity, who were present in the office.
The councillor was reportedly irked over the road lights electricity problem in his ward but the contractor claimed the road lights and electricity supply is smooth across the city including his ward area.
On the report by the contractor, a case under relevant sections has been lodged against councillor Ram Dev Verma and others for damaging around 35 tube lights, damaging government property and manhandling and thrashing the employees of the contractor, said Tarachand, circle in-charge (CI), Mahaveer Nagar police station.
The contractor also mentioned that the mob ran away with at least 8 LED lights from the office store and damaged 35 tube lights, he added.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, he further said adding no arrest has been made in the matter so far.
