UDAIPUR: Four persons, including the manager and stewards of a restaurant, have been arrested on charges of manhandling Hemlata Gupta, one of the coaches in the national woman boxing team, and her family members while they were having dinner here on Monday night.
According to police, a verbal spat over Hemlata's missing mobile phone turned ugly after the staff allegedly manhandled the guests.

The complaint was made by Anup, Hemlata's husband, at the Ambamata police station soon after the incident. However, the police refused to lodge the complaint at night and instead registered it on Tuesday.
Hemlata, a resident of Jhunjhunu, who has also trained boxing legend Mary Kom, got married on January 29 and had come with her husband and in-laws from Delhi to Udaipur on April 4 for a holiday. They have been staying at one of the hotels at Hathipole and on Monday the family was having dinner at the Amrai restaurant situated on the banks of Lake Pichhola when the incident took place.
According to the complaint, Hemlata was clicking pictures with her expensive phone worth about Rs 40,000. She then kept the phone by her side while the waiters served food. After some time when Hemlata searched for her phone, it was not there on the table.
She called on her number from her husband's mobile and the phone was ringing but a few minutes when she tried it again, the phone had been switched off. They immediately confronted the waiters who allegedly misbehaved with Hemlata and her husband.
According to the report, Anup and his father Satya Narayan Gupta were thrashed by the restaurant staff when they were accused of taking the mobile. When Hemlata tried to intervene, she too was manhandled, the complaint says. Meanwhile, one of the waiters brought the mobile phone and said that it was found on the same table where Hemlata was seated.

According to Jitendra Anchaliya, circle inspector, Ambamata police station, the complaint was registered on Monday itself and four people have been arrested. "Though they have accused almost all staff members of the restaurant for manhandling but that does not appear true. A medical examination has been conducted and we have arrested three stewards and the manager under Section 151 of the CrPC. These waiters have been serving them," said Ramlal, the investigation officer.
Of those booked are Manoj Sen, the manager of the hotel manager and three stewards Narayanlal, Hitesh Kumawat and Avtar Singh. An investigation is still on and the police are questioning other members of the staff too.
Hotel owners were goons, they kicked my old father
Expressing grave discontent on the police action, Anup Gupta (40) Hemlata's husband said that he would take up this matter with the higher authorities and lodge another complaint in Delhi. Speaking to TOI over phone, Gupta said that not only the staff but even the hotel owners bashed him and his wife very badly. " They didn't spare my old father and kicked on his forehead. I have a cut on my forehead and perhaps some internal injuries that would be detected after a CT scan" said Gupta, an investment consultant. He informed further that Hemlata has been a coach in the woman boxing team since 2004 and had coached Mary Kom too. He said that the staff and owners didnt show least respect towards a woman and thrashed her when she tried to shield him from their attack. " How the police behaved is really pathetic, they diluted the entire episode and turned severe charges like robbery and attacking woman into ones having lesser intensity and meager fine" he complained. The victim said that fearing an attack from the group, they had to leave Udaipur prior to schedule as " the safety of my family being my highest concern", he stressed.
