Over 100 petrol pumps in Jaipur face action over short fuel delivery
Jaipur: The state food and civil supplies department has intensified enforcement against short fuel delivery, confiscating nozzles from more than 100 petrol pumps across Rajasthan.
The action follows a statewide inspection drive aimed at ensuring consumers receive accurate quantities of petrol and diesel and that fuel availability remains steady.
On Friday, Ambrish Kumar, secretary, food and civil supplies department, carried out surprise checks at multiple petrol pumps in Jaipur to review petrol and diesel availability and verify that supplies were being dispensed correctly. The inspections were positioned as both a consumer-protection measure and a reassurance exercise amid public chatter about shortages.
“Adequate reserves of petrol and diesel are available within the state, and there is absolutely no shortage of any kind anywhere. There is no need to pay heed to any rumours, and residents shall refrain from panic-buying or unnecessary hoarding. Fuel supply within the state remains completely normal and smooth,” Kumar stated following the inspection.
Along with petrol and diesel, the department reviewed CNG availability at selected outlets in Jaipur, indicating that monitoring is extending beyond conventional fuels to cover alternative fuel access as well.
A senior official explained that routine nozzle checks are being used to detect under-dispensing. “Residents are receiving adequate quantities of fuel for their four-wheelers and two-wheelers. We are conducting regular checks of the petrol pump nozzles to ensure that the dispensed quantity for every five litres of fuel is less than 10 millilitres. We are sealing the nozzles if we find the discrepancy is more than 10 millilitres for every five litres,” stated a senior official.
Officials said the crackdown has been broad and time-bound. From May 5 to May 18, 23 departmental teams conducted surprise inspections at 226 petrol pumps across 20 districts. During this period, action was initiated against 110 petrol pumps under the Legal Metrology Act, and fines totalling ₹2,21,500 were collected.
