Raj petro dealers face double whammy of supply scarcity & grief over fuel additives
Jaipur: The Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association (RPDA) reported that fuel supplies to petrol pumps across the state have dropped by nearly 30%, resulting in long queues at multiple outlets. The association warned that the situation may persist as oil marketing companies are refusing to release additional fuel supplies.
The crisis has intensified amid disputes over ethanol and biodiesel blending in petrol and diesel, with the state govt triggering controversy by initiating action against some dealers.
RPDA said confusion continues over authorised blending limits, storage norms, shelf life, quality testing and fuel separation timelines, leading to disputes among dealers, consumers and inspection agencies.
In a letter addressed to the state govt, RPDA president Rajendra Singh Bhati warned that the Centre’s higher ethanol blending targets could create further complications unless clear technical protocols are issued.
The association also alleged harassment of petrol pump operators by oil companies and enforcement agencies, describing recent action against dealers as “arbitrary and unlawful”. It demanded a high-level meeting to resolve the issue.
Bhati claimed operators were facing repeated inspections, penalties and threats of dealership cancellation.
The dealers’ body further accused legal metrology officials of imposing fines during inspections and issuing adverse reports that harm reputations. It also alleged that due procedures under the Legal Metrology Act were often not followed before action was initiated against retail outlets.
RPDA has sought the state govt’s immediate intervention to restore fuel supplies and ensure fair treatment of dealers.
