Save water drive resonates with residents & students

Jaipur: After an intensive one month awareness campaign on ‘Conserve Water Save Life’, a joint initiative of The Times of India and Water & Sanitation Support Organization of Rajasthan government, an annual calendar 2020 containing 36 paintings was released by Sandeep Verma, principal secretary, Public Health Engineering & Ground Water Departments and Arun Srivastava, director, WSSO, Rajasthan at an event in Hotel Royal Orchid, Tonk Road on Wednesday.
More than 1500 students from Cambridge Court High School, Mansarovar; Maheshwari Girls Public School, Vidyadhar Nagar; Central Academy, Vidyadhar Nagar; St Edmund’s School, Jawahar Nagar; Neerja Modi School, Mansarovar; Maheshwari Public School, Jawahar Nagar; and ICG Institute of Education Research & Development, Mansarovar had participated in the painting competition.
The activities also included the Residential Welfare Associations and Societies where various awareness initiatives were undertaken. Households in the residential societies such as Mahima Panache, Jagatpura; Mahima Panorama, Jagatpura; Ashiana Umang, Ajmer Road; Ashiana Vrinda Gardens, Jagatpura; and Ashiana Rangoli Gardens, Vaishali Nagar were involved in large numbers for demonstrations like clean your vehicles with wet clothes, use RO water for mopping, close the tap when not in use and get leakages repaired at the earliest.
Sandeep Verma, chief guest of the event, said that creating awareness about saving water is the crucial first step and the joint initiative was aimed at achieving that goal. “We are delighted to see people from various walks of life participating in the activities with such great enthusiasm,” said Verma.
Speaking about the government initiatives, Arun Srivastava said that WSSO (Water and Sanitation Support Organization) is responsible for capacity building of officials as well as the nodal agency for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, under which the target is to provide piped water to all households. Currently, 12% households in Rajasthan get piped water. “But the target is to provide piped water to all residents by 2024 is our target,” said Srivastava.
The event drew large participation from the schools and the residential societies.
