Shops shut in protest as Bapu Bazaar traders oppose one-way traffic move
Jaipur: Traders in Bapu Bazaar kept their shops shut Friday in protest against the sudden implementation of a one-way traffic system in the market. They alleged that the arrangement was introduced without prior consultation with market associations, affecting both business activity and customer movement in the busy commercial area.
A delegation of the Jaipur Vyapar Mahasangh later met DCP Traffic Yogesh Goyal to raise objections to the decision.
During the meeting, traders argued that such traffic measures should not be enforced without discussions with stakeholders. According to the traders’ body, Goyal acknowledged that the one-way system was introduced abruptly and assured them that it would not continue in Bapu Bazaar. Following the assurance, instructions were issued to immediately withdraw the one-way arrangement, after which traders reopened their establishments.
The meeting also focused on traffic congestion and encroachments in the market area. Bapu Bazaar Vyapar Mandal and Jaipur Vyapar Mahasangh jointly decided that traders would voluntarily remove temporary encroachments from roads and verandahs to improve pedestrian movement and ease congestion in the market.
Goyal also asked municipal officials to take necessary action against encroachments affecting traffic flow.
The traders’ body appealed to shopkeepers to park their vehicles only in designated parking areas and keep space outside shops free for customers. It added that traders would cooperate with the administration in improving traffic management across the market area.
