The death toll in the freak mishap on Jaipur-Ajmer Express Highway climbed to three as two more victims succumbed to injuries on Saturday. A son and daughter-in-law of the 80-year-old man, who was crushed to death after a truck fell on their SUV off a flyover near Kamla Nehru Nagar on Friday died while undergoing treatment. Three others are still admitted to a hospital.
Those who were killed were identified as Habib Ahmed, Sahina Banu, Saiyad Mahboob Ahmed, residents of Khadim Mohalla in Ajmer. Habib had died on Friday, while his son Mahboob and wife of his another son - Sahina Banu, died early on Saturday.
"The condition of Mahboob Ahmed and Sahina Bau was critical. They succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital," said a police officer.
An FIR has been registered against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving.
"The preliminary investigation suggests that the truck driver may have been under the influence of alcohol that caused the mishap," said the officer. The truck broke the boundary wall and fell off the flyover connecting Kamla Nehru Nagar to the highway.
Habib had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pratap Nagar for the past few days. After Habib recovered, his sons Mahboob and Hasan, and daughter-in-law Sahina were taking him home in an SUV when the mishap occurred.
