The project uses Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to create a detailed record of each chinar tree, including its health, location, girth, height, and overall condition.
Chinar Atlas of Kashmir to be developed
A Chinar Atlas of Kashmir is being prepared to map and document the distribution of chinar trees across the valley. This will offer a detailed view of their status district-wise.
World’s third largest Chinar
In Ganderbal district, a chinar tree with a girth of 74 feet has been recorded, making it the third largest chinar in the world in terms of girth.
Unique QR codes
Each chinar tree is assigned a unique QR code containing its complete data, including physical characteristics, health status, geographical coordinates, and whether it is a seed bearer.
Heritage registers for every district
District-wise heritage registers are being created to maintain an updated record of all surveyed chinar trees, ensuring easy access to credible and comprehensive data.
Kashmir’s Chinars in world monumental tree list
Kashmir’s chinar trees have received international recognition, with 11 of them listed among the top 20 monumental trees in the world.
