JAMSHEDPUR: In yet another incident of improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in the CPI (Maoist)-infested Goilkera in West Singhbhum, a 64-year-olsd woman was killed and her two daughters-in-law had a narrow escape.
The blast occurred in the Maradiri forest under Goilkera police station limits early on Friday morning, police said.
“Gangi Surin, of Patahatu village, went to the forest to collect firewood accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, Janki and Rai.
The blast occurred when Gangi accidentally stepped on a pressure-triggered IED. She died on the spot,” said SP Ashutosh Shekhar.
In the last three-and-a-half month period, nine incidents of accidental IED explosion, including that of Friday, in Tonto and Goilkera police station limits have claimed lives of seven villagers and injured five, including a 13-year-old boy. Besides, several heads of cattle have died in the explosions. Further, 15 security personnel have also been injured in six separate incidents of IED blast during the same period within the police station limits.
The SP said the villagers in the extremist-hit areas have been advised to observe utmost caution while venturing into the forest.
“The ultras have allegedly planted the IEDs in the forest areas of the two adjoining police station limits to target security forces. So, we need to follow precaution,” SP said.
