JAMSHEDPUR: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has intensified the drive against people stocking construction materials on the road or dumping building material waste on the roadside.
The urban local body has constituted three separate flying squad teams for the inspection of colonies, markets, and other public places to catch the people stacking or scattering building materials on the streets in violation of the Jharkhand Municipal Act 2011 rules.
JNAC city manager Ravi Bharati said that over 200 people have been penalised in the past one month including building owners, residential societies, building construction companies and shopkeepers. He said that Rs 1,000 fine has been imposed on each of them with a warner of bigger penalty. Earlier, one flying squad, each comprising four officials of the notified area conducted inspections but from Monday two additional squads will do the surprise inspection.
"Doing construction activity on the road, or, scattering building debris on the roadside reduces the carriageway, besides, there's a risk to the motorists crossing through the reduced carriageway," said theatre artist, Prem Dixit, whose team has performed several plays on road safety.
Further, JNAC’s bid to make the roads clear of unauthorised enroachments, unauthorised vehicles parking, and, construction materials, is part of its efforts to make the city roads look neat ahead of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 2023.
