JAMSHEDPUR: A 43-year-old man who had killed his wife, two daughters and their tution teacher in 2021 was sentenced to death by the court of additional district and sessions judge (IV) - Jamshedpur, Rajendra Kumar Sinha.
Deepak Kumar Singh alias Golu, a fire brigade personnel at Tata Steel, had killed his wife Veena (36), daughters Shravani (16), Sanvi (8), and their 26-year-old teacher on April 12, 2021. The accused had also sexually assaulted the teacher after her death.
“The court found Deepak guilty under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 379 (theft), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 376 (1) (rape),” said additional public prosecutor, Rajiv Kumar.
Deepak was involved in a transportation business along with his partner Roshan, a resident of Telco.
Accused was nabbed 4 days after crime
However, when he found out that Roshan had cheated him in matters relating to distribution of the profit money from the business, he hatched a plot to kill Roshan by inviting him on lunch to his house on April 12. Deepak then realised that if he kills Roshan, he would be jailed and his family would eventually suffer. To prevent his wife and children from suffering, he killed them and hid the bodies in a room, according to the confessional statement of the convict. In the meantime, the children’s teacher had come home for tuition.
Inadvertently, she walked into the room where the bodies were kept. When she started screaming, Deepak killed her with a sharp knife. He also told the police that he raped the woman. Meanwhile, when the guests came home for lunch, Deepak entertained them in the adjacent room.
When the minor daughter of Roshan went to the bathroom, Deepak assaulted Roshan's friend with a hammer, driving the injured to scream for help. When Roshan and his wife rushed in to help him, Deepak also tried to attack the couple. However, all three guests rushed out unhurt along with the girl and fled the place. Subsequently, Deepak also escaped leaving the house open. The neighbours thereafter alerted the police. Police arrested Deepak from Dhanbad on April 16, following four days of manhunt. He is at present lodged in Ghagidih central prison.
