JAMSHEDPUR: Two days after the bodies of woman police constable Savita Rani Hembram (36), her 13-year-old daughter Geeta, and sexagenarian mother Lakhia Murmu were found from Savita’s apartment in police lines of Golmuri area, police on Friday night arrested police van driver Ram Chandra Singh Jamuda (40), who is posted at district police headquarters.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar on Saturday said, “Jamuda and Savita were involved in an affair. Ram often used to quarrel with Savita after suspecting her of having a new relationship with another man. On July 19, Jamuda visited Savita’s house in the late hours and an altercation broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Jamuda picked up an iron rod and hit Savita on the head.”
Hearing her screams, Geeta and Lakhia, who were in the adjacent room, rushed in to Savita’s room. Suspecting that the duo could disclose the incident and identify him, Jamuda hit them, too, and fled. He left the three bleeding and closed the doors of the flat from outside. Eventually, the trio succumbed to their injuries, the SSP added
“The killer cop has confessed to us that the incident was a spur of the moment and that there was no deliberate planning behind the crime,” the SSP said.
Savita was working as a police constable at the district headquarters since 2015 and she came into contact with Jamuda a year later.
