JAMSHEDPUR: Acting on the directive of the state drug control brass, the department officers of East Singhbhum district on Monday initiated a random inspection drive at salons and beauty parlours across Steel City against the alleged use of expired and spurious cosmetics.
District drug inspector Abrar Alam said many salon and parlour owners are using products which were procured before the pandemic as these were closed for a long spell since March 2020 due to Covid-19.
Many customers have complained of skin problems. “We are carrying out random inspections not only at the salons and beauty parlours but also at the cosmetic shops. We will check if cosmetics of expired date or duplicate products are being used or sold,” he said.
The move assumes significance as it is related to public health and hygiene.
Sources said state department director Ritu Sahay, deputy Sumant Tiwari, and additional chief secretary (health and family welfare) Arun Kumar Singh are monitoring the drive. Notably, the raids were planned after spurious ayurvedic products were seized from various places on Saturday.
