KANPUR: City-based hotels and restaurants prepared a special menu for Sunday on the occasion of International Housewives Day.
Several kids along with their mothers and families thronged joints to celebrate the day and to salute the hard-work and patience of housewives.
Housewife Day recognizes the importance of stay at home by wives and moms. Also referred to as "Retro" Housewife Day, it is observed on November 3, every year.
The restaurants offered various dishes like Mughlai, Chinese and South-Indian food for the housewives. Apart from restaurants, large crowd was also witnessed at ice-cream parlors and at shopping centres as well. Many of these joints offered special discounts as well.
"The housewives work tirelessly each and every day with little appreciation or monetary compensation. The housewives day is a day for these women who serve everyone in the family patiently. Every family must celebrate the achievement of the women who is vital for their home," said Devendra Swaroop a restaurant owner at Arya Nagar.
He added that many families thronged his restaurant on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the hardworking domestic divas who remain busy throughout the day performing never-ending and thankless jobs.
The Gupta family on Sunday came out to celebrate the presence of two women, the head of the family Rajani Gupta and her daughter-in-law Shalini Gupta.
"I am an MBA but have no complaints with my husband for not allowing me to work. After spending time at home I realized that running a home is tougher than running a firm," said Shalini Gupta.
Anita Verma takes pride in her decision of quitting the job after marriage.
A resident of Kidwai Nagar, she said "it was woman's job to take care of the home and the children and its her art to run home in the limited income of her husband."
Many of women have to work due to financial necessity or other obligations.
And after putting in a full day at work, they also have to take care of household chores, kids' homework, school activities, paying the bills, buying groceries and making meals.
"There is an old saying that 'a woman's work is never done'. This is very much true even today. From chef, nurse, maid and seamstress to chauffeur, teacher, gardener and referee, women wear many hats every day."
"And with the holiday season is around the corner, life is about to become even more hectic. Hence I came out with family to enjoy my day and praise my day -- The Housewives Day," said Hrishika Gupta, resident of K-Block.
