KANPUR: Using their most potent weapon 'boycott', employees of Upper India Sugar Exchange Maternity Hospital (UISEMH), an associate of Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR), disrupted the services at the hospital and gheraoed its chief medical superintendent (CMS) on Thursday.
The hospital workers and employees were enraged by the misbehaviour of a fellow guard by a patient's attendant in the presence of chief medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr Anshu Mishra.
The incident occurred on the hospital campus, when one of the hospital guards stopped a patient's attendant, trying to make a forceful entry into the premises without a pass. "A kin of a patient named Suneeta of ward no. 7 started misbehaving with the guard at the gate when he was not allowed to enter without an entry pass. This lead to heated argument between the two, which turned serious when the attendant started manhandling the guard," said Kaju, a hospital employee.
He added: "The CMS, who was passing by the corridor, did not even bother to intervene and end up the scuffle. What was more hurtful was the indifferent attitude of Dr Anshu who, instead of supporting us, made fun of the whole episode."
"It was humiliating for us and we were thus left with no option but to boycott the services at the hospital," said workers' leader Jeet Bahadur Singh.
It was only after the intervention of superintendent-in-chief (LLR) Dr VN Tripathi that workers got back to their work. "Though, nothing much happened, the agitating workers demanded that such incidents should not take place in the hospital premises. The workers were assured of the same and then they rejoined their duties," informed Dr Tripathi.
