In a major crackdown, the city police, on Wednesday, busted an alleged gambling den operating in the Pawan Guest House belonging to a former BSP MLA from Chaubeypur, K P Singh.

KANPUR: In a major crackdown, the city police, on Wednesday, busted an alleged gambling den operating in the Pawan Guest House belonging to a former BSP MLA from Chaubeypur, K P Singh and arrested eight people and seized half-a-dozen vehicles, including a four-wheeler.
Those arrested include some of the high profile socialites and business people, who were identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Vasundhara near IIT-K, Prashant Shukla, a resident of Pandavnagar, Kakadeo, Rakesh Kumar of Kalyanpur, Ashu Mishra of Shantinagar, Chaubeypur, Subhash of Azadnagar, Rajiv Kumar of Shantinagar, Ajay Kumar of Rana Pratap Nagar and Roop Kishan Dikshit of Chaubeypur.

The raid yielded cash to the tune of Rs 91,000.
A city police team headed by inspector Kalyanpur, Som Dutt Sharma raided the guest house situated in the Awas Vikas Colony in Kalyanpur area about 3.00pm on Wednesday. Its owner, according to the police, was running a gambling club from the guesthouse.
DIG, Hari Ram Sharma said the raid followed specific information that the cops had about the gambling den. "More than a dozen gamblers have been arrested but the owner is still absconding," he said.
According to the police, Pawan Guest House had become a preferred rendezvous point for gambling. "All gamblers used to assemble here and we have also seized six vehicles with an estimated worth of several lakhs of rupees," DIG, Sharma said.
An FIR in this connection has been lodged and further investigations are on in the case, he added further.
