Thousands celebrate Ganga Dussehra with devotion
Kanpur: Thousands of Hindu devotees on Monday took a holy dip in the Ganga early in the morning on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra amid religious fervour and devotion.
Ganga Dussehra is considered one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals as it marks the descent of the holy Ganga from heaven to Earth. The festival is observed on Dashami, the 10th day of the bright fortnight of the Jyestha month. Devotees believe that taking a holy bath in the Ganga on this day washes away 10 types of sins.
Many devotees visited temples located near the ghats and offered prayers before returning to their homes. In the evening, Ganga Aarti was performed at several ghats where devotees lit earthen lamps amid devotional chants.
A major rush of devotees was witnessed at Bithoor where the district administration made special preventive and security arrangements to manage the crowd. Senior district officials remained present to supervise the celebrations and ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
