Twin daughters murderer attempts suicide in Kanpur jail

Kanpur: The man accused of murdering his twin daughters and lodged in Kanpur jail, attempted suicide on Sunday by slitting his own throat inside the prison, officials said.

Fellow inmates noticed him writhing in pain and informed the jail authorities after which he was admitted to Ursala Hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the accused was under severe stress due to guilt of his crime. He sharpened the steel plate provided during mealtime and used it to slash his own throat. Fellow inmates heard him cry out in pain and alerted the jail officials.

Jail Superintendent Rajesh Pandey stated that his condition is out of danger and he would be taken back to jail after receiving clearance from doctors.

The accused, Shashiranjan Mishra, a medical representative, had murdered his twin daughters Riddhi-Siddhi at his residence in Kidwainagar on the night of April 18 by strangling them and then placing a chopper on their necks and striking it with a hammer. Police arrested him and sent him to jail, where he has been lodged ever since.
