Yellow alert for Kanpur division; IMD predicts severe heatwave in next 24 hours
Kanpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for the Kanpur Division. It said that over the next 24 hours, severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail across all the districts of the Kanpur Division, and there is no possibility of thunderstorms.
It added that the sky will remain completely clear, and strong, dry, hot north-westerly winds will blow across the division. The maximum temperature is likely to reach up to 43 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature will remain at 30 degree Celsius, IMD in its alert said.
In Kanpur Dehat, the maximum temperature will range between 43 degree to 44 degree Celsius, it said.
On Sunday, mercury shot by 1.5 degree Celsius, hitting the maximum temperature at 41.5 degree, as recorded at CSA weather observatory. Similarly minimum temperature too rose and recorded as 25.6 degree Celsius. Maximum relative humidity also decreased due to severe hot climatic conditions.
North- Westerly winds swept in the city with a speed of 3.5 to 6.9kms per hour. The heat index fluctuated between 45 to 49 degree Celsius.
Dr S N Sunil Pandey, weather expert CSA university, confirmed that dry weather accompanied by intense sunshine is expected in the Kanpur division on Monday. He said the that due to the dangerous heat index, it is advised to minimize outdoor activity between 11 AM and 4 PM to avoid heat stroke, exhaustion, and dehydration.
