NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jose Nelledam, a member of the Mullankolli Grama Panchayat in Wayanad, was found dead in a pond near his home on Friday, officials said.
According to initial reports from Kerala police, Jose Nelledam allegedly cut his wrist after consuming poison and jumped into a pond.
A neighbour spotted him and rushed him to a private hospital in Pulpally, where he was declared dead.
Jose, a member of the second ward, Bhoothanamkunnu, in Mullankoll Grama Panchayat, was earlier implicated in a case connected to Congress worker Thankachan, who had been jailed but later acquitted by the court.
The Pulpally police have registered a case and launched an investigation into Jose Nelledam’s death.
The incident comes during Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s 10-day visit to Wayanad.
