Natesan urges parties to give marginalized due representation
Kottayam: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan urged political parties to give due representation to marginalised and backward communities during candidate selection for assembly elections. In the last election, Congress had only one MLA from Ezhava community, despite then KPCC president being an Ezhava, Natesan wrote in the editorial of Yoganadam, SNDP's mouthpiece.
It is necessary that members of the backward community, whether within a party or outside, try to get due share of representation for the community during candidate selection and make strong efforts to achieve this if not given due representation. He urged the community to take up this policy in earnest. He warned that religious forces would capture all sectors if they didn't do this. He asked community members to give a reply through the ballot for denying what the community was entitled to.Natesan continued his attack on Muslim League, saying that League, which had made its presence in all sectors, was making new demands stating that they didn't get enough."In Kerala, it won't be long before the majority community becomes a minority. It remains to be seen what those, who snatched away everything as a minority, will demonstrate as they become a majority. The speeches of Muslim League leaders are indicative of this. They talk about reclaiming what the community lost over the past 10 years and emphasise that their candidate is a devout person who prays five times a day. The party is standing solely for Muslims," he said."Minority religious groups organised beyond party politics, using religion to gain entry into the corridors of power. Muslim and Christian communities formed their own parties, creating MLAs, MPs and ministers to secure positions of power. As these parties split and new factions emerged, they continued to seize more positions and titles. Despite receiving what they deserve and more, many remained dissatisfied," he added.Natesan said the losses, then and now, were borne only by the backward communities.
