Two CPM workers were killed and four other injured, in a bomb explosion near Chettakandy near Panur, under Kolavallur police limits in Kannur district on Saturday afternoon.

KANNUR: Two CPM workers were killed and four other injured, in a bomb explosion near Chettakandy near Panur, under Kolavallur police limits in Kannur district on Saturday afternoon. According to police, the explosion happened around 1.30 pm, when the bombs were being made in a vacant plot and the deceased have been identified as local residents Shyju and Subeesh.
However, the exact cause of explosion was not immediately known, said police, who said they got the information only around 2 pm only.

The injured were first taken to the Cooperative Hospital in Thalassery but since the condition of the two was critical they were immediately taken to Kozhikode. However, they died on the way to the hospital, according to police.
The area is a CPM stronghold and there were many instances of BJP-CPM clashes. Earlier also there were many instances of bomb explosions in the area.
Following the incident the bomb squad and police team reached the spot, and investigation is still going on.
