Car rams into sugarcane truck; 3 dead

Kolhapur: Three people, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed and four others injured when the car they were travelling in crashed in to a truck carrying sugarcane, near Karandwadi village on the Sangi-Islampur road early on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Namdev Salunkhe (29), the driver of the vehicle; Pavan Shankarlal Bhardiya (35), and his son Punit (8).
The boy and his father were residents of Madhavnagar, Sangli. The driver was from Dhalewadi in Kavtemahankal
The four injured people were shifted to a private hospital for treatment and they are all out of danger.
The accident has been reported with the Ashta police.
According to the police, the incident took at around 6 am on Tuesday.
The occupants of the car, all members of the Bhardiya family, were returning to Sangli from Ashta and by the Islampur-Sangli road. A truck carrying sugarcane was travelling to Ashta from Sangli. Both vehicles were going fast and crashed in to each other.
"We are investigating the case and will take legal action against those responsible," said an officer from Ashta police station.
