KOLHAPUR: A prisoner serving life imprisonment at Kalamba Jail in Kolhapur attacked jail superintendent Chandramani Indurkar on Wednesday morning.
The jail superintendent sustained injuries to his hand and underwent treatment at the jail hospital. The incident took place on Wednesday morning when Indurkar was carrying out routine round inspection of the bunker.
According to a jail official, the prisoner was earlier serving life imprisonment in Ratnagiri jail and was moved to Kalamba jail in Kolhapur on September 25, 2021. He was given the work of a watchman but few days before he got involved in a fight with another prisoner following which Indurkar removed him from the post. This had infuriated the prisoner and led to the attack.
Indurkar, while talking to TOI, said, “On Wednesday morning, I was carrying out the routine round inspection of the bunker when suddenly the prisoner serving life imprisonment attacked me with a piece of tin. Other workers and prisoners saved me from the attacker. But I have got injuries on my hand.”
