Kolkata: Calcutta High Court has summoned a doctor in connection with the alleged irregularities in the appointment of six teachers in state-run schools in Murshidabad.
Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay asked Dr Debashis Roy to appear in court at 10.30am on Thursday and testify that he had issued a medical certificate to former West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) adviser Shanti Prasad Sinha.

On Wednesday, Sinha’s lawyer submitted the doctor’s certificate in court to explain why the former SSC adviser didn’t appear in person. “If the doctor testifies that Shanti Prasad Sinha is sick, the court will send an ambulance and ask for a green corridor to bring him here,” the judge said.
Justice Gangopadhyay passed the directive after recording statements in-camera of former SSC chairman Soumitra Sarkar and programme officer Samarjit Acharya. “The third floor in the SSC office is a cradle of corruption,” the court observed.
In a related case, the SSC in an affidavit stated that it was “at fault” in recruiting a teacher who ranked low in the 2016 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The court directed the SSC to submit the recommendation letter for the said candidate.
