CBSE rains 90% on city schools

Since the CBSE XII results were declared at 10 am on Friday, one found the city schools rejoicing. Not only were the high scores of the toppers something to write home about, it had showered 90% in most schools.

KOLKATA: Since the CBSE XII results were declared at 10 am on Friday, one found the city schools rejoicing. Not only were the high scores of the toppers something to write home about, it had showered 90% in most schools.
The highest score in the city touched 97.2% from the science stream. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Salt Lake was one of the forerunners in achieving the highest score.

Subhanip Biswas was among the city toppers from the school who scored 97.2%, followed by Sharmila Sinha, who scored 96.6% and Surabhi Mann, who got 96%.
Subhanip, who is an avid reader, confessed that he cannot study without his mother. "I never study without my mom, who has been my constant source of support," he said, adding, "I plan to stay in India and pursue higher studies in chemistry."
The highest scorer from Lakshmipat Singhania Academy was Padmanabh Bagaria of the science stream. "I am now looking ahead to the IIT-JEE results. I expected a little more marks," he said.
In Mahadevi Birla Girls' Higher Secondary School, the highest scorer was Sakhshi Jhunjhunwala from the science stream, with 94.6%. One of the top scorers in the humanities group from the city was Pooja Gupta, who got 93%.
In Birla High School for Boys, Anur Agarwal from commerce scored 95% followed by Siddhant More at 93.8% and Himanshu Damani, with 93.6%. Vandit D Shah scored 100% in economics. From BD Memorial School, Rick Rohan scored 94.4%. In Apeejay School, the topper was from the humanities department: Aindrilla Dey, who scored 95.4%. Two girls from the commerce steam in Ashok Hall Girls Higher Secondary School, Priya Maheshwari and Riddhi Mehta, topped the batch with 94.4%. In Abhinav Bharati School, Durgesh Gupta from the science stream got 94.8% and came out on top.

As many as 66 students scoring more than 90% in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. In Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, 26 crossed 90%, up from nine last year.
Despite the stellar performance of city schools, the Allahabad region, of which Bengal is a part, has finished fifth, with a pass percentage of 74.56%. Chennai retained the top position for the third consecutive year with a pass percentage of 92.06%. Ajmer with 86.93% is second followed by Delhi with 84.25%.
At the national level, girls outperformed the boys for the 11th year running. Girls had a pass percentage of 85.94%, while that of boys, at 77.40%, was down 0.19% from last year. At 81%, the pass percentage was marginally up by 0.09%.
