Ex-CM faces ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans at HC corridor
Kolkata: Chants of "Jai Shri Ram", "chor (thief)" and a few feeble "Joy Banglas" were heard in Calcutta HC's corridors when former CM Mamata Banerjee stepped out of the courtroom on Thursday after arguing a public interest litigation (PIL) on post-poll violence.Banerjee had arrived at the HC donning a lawyer's attire around 10.30 am. She entered the courtroom and argued her case. But soon after, crowds started gathering inside and outside the courtroom. Around 15 cops were rushed in, amid sloganeering.Just as Banerjee walked out flanked by former finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya and senior advocate Kalyan Bandopadhyay, the crowd erupted in slogans. Many advocates and others who had business in the court were caught in the melee.Kalyan Bandopadhyay issued a press statement alleging that "everything that happened at the HC was at (CM) Suvendu Adhikari's direction."CM Adhikari told reporters: "I have a lot of work to do. I don't have the time to worry about such unnecessary things."
