KOLKATA:West Bengal governor Viren J. Shah granted a sum of Rs 10,000 from his allpurposes benevolent fund for the treatment of Hemantabala Chatterjee, a surviving member of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army (INA).

Shah granted a sum of Rs 10,000 from his allpurposes benevolent fund for the treatment of Hemantabala Chatterjee, a surviving member of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army (INA).A Raj Bhavan press release said that the governor had taken note of a report about Hemantabala Chatterjee, published in a city daily and was shocked that she was reportedly passing her days in the metropolis in acute indisposition and abject poverty.The governor, it said, had asked his office to obtain details of the lady through the Thakurpukur police station."On receipt of the feedback, the governor has suo motu granted a sum of Rs 10,000 from his all purposes benevolent fund for her medical treatment," it the release said.

It said that a cheque of Rs 5,000 as the first instalment had already been sent to Hemantabala at her residence.
