JU accepts placement officer’s resignation
Kolkata: Jadavpur University accepted the resignation letter of officer on special duty (training and placement - contractual) Samita Bhattacharya and asked her to hand over the charge along with files and documents pertaining to placement to the newly appointed placement officer Subhendu Kundu.
Bhattacharya tendered her resignation letter on May 18, citing “personal grounds.” The release letter issued to Bhattacharya on June 3 from the registrar’s office stated that her resignation was accepted with effect from June 5, “subject to clearance of all duties lying, if any, and the final outcome of the enquiry being conducted.”
The university on April 10 formed an enquiry committee to investigate emerging issues related to the office of the placement and training. The committee submitted its preliminary report on June 2 to VC, stating, “functioning of the office of placement and training has been seriously deficient and contrary to the interests of the students and the university.”
VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee on Monday said, “Though she had asked for immediate release, we released her on June 5. I appreciate her contribution and service to JU’s placement. I have not read the committee’s report yet. But I know the issue lies with upkeep and maintenance of placement data at the office of placement and training for which we struggle to supply data during NAAC and other rankings.”
Bhattacharya on Monday said, “I retired last Dec but was on extension. After the new placement officer has joined, I resigned. I have informed authorities that I am medically unfit to go to the university now.”
