Nadia: Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officer Salil Kumar Mondal of Chittashali in Nadia was arrested for allegedly promising jobs to 56 people and taking money in return. According to sources, he was the senior officer of Katwa Daihata ICDS office in Burdwan. Mondal was produced before Krishnagar court on Friday, where he was remanded in police custody for a day.

Arun Das, inspector-in-charge of Kotwali police station, confirmed the arrest. "Mondal had been arrested on the basis of complaints filed by Bimal Biswas, a resident of Aranghata in Nadia. He was produced before the court on Friday," he said. However, he refused to divulge the job details of Mondal.
Mondal had assured jobs in ICDS, PSC Group D and the Railways to aspirants from Nadia, Murshidabad, Malda and Kolkata. Months passed by, but no letters for jobs arrived to any of them. The candidates then raided Mondal's home on Friday and demanded the money back.
The situation turned violent when he refused to return the money. At one point of time, he even refused to admit that he had taken any money from the candidates.
They then informed police and Mondal was arrested.
