HOWRAH: A 16-year-old boy died after falling off a train on Saturday afternoon. Sources said he was standing dangerously near the gate when his head hit an electric post between the Bali and Belur stations.
The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Kumar Shau (16) — a resident of Howrah and a Class-VII student of Howrah Shiksha Sadan. He was spotted by the officials of Belur GRP lying a in a pool of blood on the railway tracks.

Shau was rushed to Howrah district hospital where his condition deteriorated. His parents were informed who later shifted him to a private hospital near Foreshore Road. Shau died there in the evening. Police suspected that he has died in an accident. Shau was a student of class VII of Howrah Shiksha Sadan. His family members claimed that the boy had gone to the school in the morning while the school authorities denied that he attended classes.
In another incident, Sarthak Mazumdar (18) - a resident of Chinsurah in Hooghly - died while taking a dip in a pond on the premises of Belur Shilpamandir Polytechnic College on Saturday evening. Mazumdar was playing football after the classes were over. Witnesses said after taking a dip, he didn't surface. Mazumdar's body was fished out after divers were pressed into service.
fter getting exhausted Mazumdar along with his friends went to the pond to clean themselves. He took a dip into the pond and did not surface. Police from Bali was immediately informed by the authorities and divers were brought to the place. Mazumdar's body was fished out from the pond on Saturday evening. He was brought to the Howrah district hospital where the doctors pronounced dead. His father is a railway employee. Police sources said no complaint was lodged in either of the two deaths.
