Thumri singer passes away

KOLKATA: Noted thumri singer PurnimaChaudhuri passed away on Monday morning. She belonged to the Benarasgharana and trained under her guru,
Mahadeb Prasad Mishra, a doyen of the gharana. Chaudhuri was famous for her soulful renditions of thumri, chaiti, kajri, dadra, hori and tappa and was known to have maintained the purity of her gharana. She trained under Girija Devi occasionally.TNN
extremely true to the style of singing of her gharana and was known to have maintained its purity. She occassionally trained in thumri under Girija Devi also. Chaudhuri was famous for her soulful renderings of thumri, chaiti, kajri, dadra, hori and tappa and performed in concerts across the country.
