authorities have formed a three-member panel to probe the assault.BESU registrar Biman Banerjee, however, said that the complainant wasn't allowed to take the fifth semester exams because of poor attendance and there had been complaints of unruly behaviour against him.
A group of students allegedly assaulted another student on the BESU campus on Thursday night. The victim has already lodged a complaint against three students with the Shibpore police station. Meanwhile, the BESU authorities have raised question over the student status of the victim. After long once again student unrest has been reported from the BESU campus, what however prompted the authority to start an inquiry immediate after being informed. But BESU authority has raised question on the student status of the victim boy.
According to police, Chakma came to the Shibpore police station late on Thursday night and introduced himself as a student of the mining department of BESU. Chakma, who hails from Malda, alleged that on Thursday evening there was a party at the Lord's ground on the campus and he was invited by one of the students to join it.
Chakma told police that one of the students called him and asked him to join the programme
. When he went to the party, he found some of the students in an inebriated state, Chakma stated in his complaint. During the course of the party, he got involved in an altercation with a group of students, including the one who had invited him. Chakma alleged that following the altercation, three students rained blows and fists on him, leaving him bruised and injured. He had to take admission in a private nursing home nearby. claimed that being bashed up, his physical condition deteriorated and he had to take admission in a nearby private nursing home.
In his complaint, Chakma named three students in his complaint. He
identified the trio as Ritwik
Roy, Milton Kirtania
and PintuSarkar
. "We have registered a case on the basis of Chakma's
complaint and will interrogate the accused students," said Rakesh
Singh, assistant commissioner of police (south), Howrah
city police. Though the BESU authorities have formed a three-member team to probe the assault on campus, registrar Biman Banerjee said that the complainant was not allowed to appear in the fifth semester exams for poor attendance. Branding him an outsider, Banerjee said: "He was asked to take re-admission, which he did not. We also have complaints against him for unruly behaviour. He was earlier told to leave the hostel."
Aditya Banerjee, the acting professor in charge of students' activities, will lead the probe panel. Vice-chancellor Ajoy Roy said: "We have taken up the issue with great importance. We will not allow any indiscipline on the campus. So, a probe committee has been formed and they will the three member committee is supposed to
submit the report by Wednesday." Soon police informed BESU authority. On Friday, the university authority have formed a three member inquiry committee under professor Aditya Banerjee, acting professor in-charge of students' activities. Ajoy Roy, vice chancellor said, "University registrar Biman Banerjee however questioned the student status of the complainant boy. He said that Bikram was not allowed to appear in the examination in fifth semester for poor attendance. He was asked to take re admission what he did not. We have also received complaints against him about some indiscipline activities. He was also asked to leave the hostel, said Banerjee, who branded him as an outsider.
