KOLKATA: Mili Ghosh, a 38-year-old woman, was found murdered on Friday at her Shibtala residence near Rajarhat in North 24-Parganas. After preliminary investigation, police suspect the robbers killed the housewife by strangulating her when she tried to resist them from looting her house. No one has been arrested in this connection yet.
Police said Mili used to stay in the house along with her husband Joydeb Ghosh, an ex-employee of Jessop factory, and their son Subhas.
Joydeb and Subhas both are associated with lubricant oil supplying business to shops.
Subhas reportedly told police that he and his father left for their job around 9.30am while his mother was alone in the house. He returned home at around 2.30pm and found the main door open. Inside, he saw her mother lying unconscious on the kitchen floor with a nylon rope tied around her neck. In the adjoining room, he found the almirah open with some jewellery missing. Mili was taken to a local nursing home where she was declared dead on arrival.
"It is suspected that the woman was strangulated to death though we are waiting for the autopsy report. Some gold ornaments were also allegedly missing from the room. So we suspect the robbers killed her when she tried to resist," a senior police official said.
