9-yr-old killed in firecracker explosion in Kannur
KANNUR: A 9-year-old boy was killed after a firecracker exploded in his hand at Punnakkapara near Azhikode, Kannur, on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Aman, son of Ubaid from Punnakkapara. Three other children who also suffered injuries in the explosion are receiving treatment and are said to be stable.
According to police, the mishap occurred at a ground where UDF workers were celebrating the swearing-in ceremony of chief minister V D Satheesan. It is suspected that the incident took place when the children tried to ignite the unexploded firecrackers found on the ground.
Aman suffered serious burn injuries on neck and hand in the explosion. Though he was rushed to Kannur district hospital, his life could not be saved.
Valapattanam police registered a case in the incident and launched an investigation.
