The 17-year-old girl revealed the sexual abuse during a counselling programme conducted by Childline. Police registered a case against Shamsudheen, who represents Ward 32, on Friday based on the complaint lodged by the girl's elder sister.
Valanchery circle inspector S P Sudheeran said that the girl was staying with her parents and two sisters in a rented quarters owned by Shamsudheen and he misused his relationship with the elder sister of the girl to abuse her. "Four days ago Shamsudheen had a quarrel with the girl's sister and she had threatened to reveal Shamsudheen's misbehaviour with the minor girl to police. A probe has revealed that he has gone abroad to avoid police action," he said.
Childline coordinator Anwar Karakkadan said the accused had promised to marry the girl once she turns 18. "The girl has said that she was forced to discontinue her schooling after SSLC due to pressure from the part of accused," Karakkadan said.
