KOZHIKODE: A Sitting of the Legislative Committee on the Welfare of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs chaired by K V Abdul Khader at the collectorate conference hall here on Tuesday decided to submit a recommendation to the state government to increase the welfare pensions of non-resident Keralites (NRKs).
The recommendation is being made on the basis of demand put forth by the various organisations working among the NRKs.
The sitting also decided to hold talks with officials of the Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) to avoid delay in releasing the aid for the transportation of dead bodies of NRKs from the overseas countries to their native places in the state.
Representatives of NRKs were also brought the issue in the delay and difficulty facing by them to obtain bank loans to the attention of the committee members. They have also put forth the demand of forming district level expats advisory committees. The members have also urged the importance of setting up of an immigration office in the Malabar region.
Committee members Parakkal Abdulla, Anwar Sadat, M Rajagopal and Karatt Razak attended the sitting. NRK organisation representatives Manjakulam Narayanan; P K Kabeer Salala; C V Iqbal, M Surendran; K K Seethi; T K Kannan raised various issues of NRKs before the legislative committee.
