Kozhikode:
Rashtriya Janata Dal (
RJD) state council re-elected M V Shreyams Kumar as the party's state president at the meeting held in Kozhikode on Sunday. A 50-member state committee and 20 representatives to the national council from the state were also elected. Advocate
Thomas Mathew served as the state returning officer.
Kumar stated that the RJD in Kerala would be strengthened by upholding democratic socialist values and addressing the issues faced by ordinary farmers.
He urged that the 50th anniversary of the Emergency be observed as a Human Rights Protection Day. The resistance led by socialist activists during the Emergency in the state was remarkable, he noted. He also announced that human rights protection meetings will be held in all districts on June 25.
RSS was trying to effect a communal polarisation on the ‘Bharat Mata' issue and LDF would emerge victorious in the Nilambur assembly elections. The party will ensure that it receives the representation it rightfully deserves in the local body elections, Kumar added.
K P Mohanan MLA, Dr. Varughese George, and Dr. A. Neelalohithadas spoke at the felicitation function held after the election. tnn
