NEW DELHI: At least 10 people died and around a dozen were injured in separate road accidents in Pilibhit and Chitrakoot districts of Uttar Pradesh early Friday, police said.
In Pilibhit, a car carrying 11 passengers crashed into a tree under Neoria Police Station limits, killing five passengers, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Kumar Pandey.
"The victims, from Khatima in Uttarakhand, were returning from a wedding in a Maruti Ertiga when the car apparently lost control and struck a roadside tree," Pandey said.
Doctors confirmed three deaths on arrival at the hospital, while two others succumbed during treatment. Four injured passengers have been referred for advanced medical care, and two others were discharged after initial aid.
In Chitrakoot, five people died when a Mahindra Bolero collided head-on with a truck near Raipura Police Station, SP Arun Kumar Singh said.
"The accident occurred around 5:30 am. The Bolero, carrying 11 people, was traveling from Prayagraj and collided with a truck coming from Raipura," Singh added.
Five passengers succumbed to their injuries, while the others are receiving treatment locally before being referred to the district hospital.
Police have initiated legal proceedings in both cases.
