12-yr-old dies in road mishap

LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old girl was killed when the motorcycle on which she was going to school with her father was hit by a speeding truck from behind near Unity Crossing under Gudamba police station area on Tuesday morning.
The girl was identified as Chhaya, daughter of Santram, a resident of Bahadurpur village near Gudamba police station.
Eyewitnesses said Santram was taking Chhaya along with two of her siblings to Abhinav Girls Inter College on his motorycle at around 8.15 a.m.
Chhaya who studied in class VIII was last one on the pillion seat.
Hardly, Santram had reached near Unity Crossing, when a truck (UP 30-A-5475) hit the motorcycle. The impact of the accident resulted in all of them falling on the ground. Unfortunately, Chhaya was crushed beneath the truck, however, all others had a closed shave.
Badly injured Chhaya was rushed to trauma centre of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, where she succumbed to her injuries.
According to police, the driver of the truck fled the spot after hitting Santram's vehicle, leaving the truck behind.
Police have seized the truck and efforts were being made to nab the truck driver, police said.
